"" Q: When should I start weaning my baby?
A: At about six months babies can easily be moved onto a
mixed diet. You can try giving solid foods to your baby when they:
can sit up
show interest in solid food
Pick up food and put it in their mouth
Want to chew and could have some teeth
May still be hungry even though you have increased
their bottle feeds

Q: Can I give my baby honey?
A: Don't give honey until your baby is one year old. It could contain
a type of bacteria which can produce toxins in your baby's
intestines. Also as honey is a sugar it can lead to tooth decay.

Q: When should I start potty training?
A: The best time to start encouraging your little one to potty train is
when they show signs of readiness eg: they are aware when they
are doing a wee or a poo and have a settled and happy routine.

Q: What’s the best way to check a temperature?
A: Ear thermometers are really good for using on little ones often
providing the most accurate reading as the inner ear has a
temperature very similar to that of your baby's core temperature.
You will simply need to hold the thermometer in your baby's ear until
it displays the digital reading.

Q: How do I position my baby for sleep?
A: Always place your baby flat on their back when laying them
down for a sleep - placing babies in this position has been found
to reduce the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome or cot
death) by up to 70%.

Q: When can I introduce cow’s milk into my baby’s diet?
A: You should wait until your baby is at least a year old before
introducing cow's milk into their diet as a replacement for breast or
formula milk.

Q: What do I buy my baby for their first birthday?
A: Babies from 9 to 12 months will begin to recognise familiar toys.
Look for books with pictures of familiar objects so you can point
them out. Also try a toy telephone so your baby can imitate you
talking on the phone.

Treasure Baskets
A treasure basket is a shallow and sturdy basket filled with a variety
of natural and everyday objects varying in weight, size, texture,
colour, smell and taste that will be attractive to babies. Treasure
baskets provide babies with a wide range of objects within easy
reach that stimulate the senses and that are safe to handle and
explore in different ways.

Chatter Matters
This is a time when the children and their carers come together to
sing songs and play musical instruments. This activity will develop
listening skills, help your child with talking and also start to
understand that words have meanings. Children who have good
language skills find it easier to learn to read and write.
